HOW DOES IT WORK?
All initiatives developed by stop sida have as aim promoting a change of attitudes that allows to reduce unsafe practises which permit the transmission of VIH. As well, we offer information and help to positive people.
So,
every time that one of the materials or one of the activities carried
out from the association are analysed, must be done from a greater point
of view.

Information: using the publications and the info-line 900 ROSA, stop
sida explains to gays and lesbians what HIV and AIDS are, what being positive
means, which are the ways of transmission and methods for prevention…

Individual attention: mainly from the info-line 900 ROSA, but also
from safer sex workshops and from the individual receptions attended in
the headquarters of the association, stop sida gives specific information
to the users and it works on his/her doubts, anguishes and fears…

Support from the environment: in all of the campaigns and activities
carried out by stop sida, it is clear our intention to show the normality
of having safer sex in sexual relations between men and between women.
Our purpose is letting to see that safer sex is also funny sex, that making
safe sex is somehow a pressure from the environment. In short, our purpose
is making of safer sex a fashion, a social imperative.
- Promotion of attitudes changes: pressure from the environment, facility or difficulty in getting condoms and lubricant, skills in negotiation for using condom, customs and habits, all these items are the ones that allow us to promote a change of the behaviours among those who doesn't make always safer sex yet.

How Stop sida is structured |
stop sida is structured in Commissions and Services, that are co-ordinated
by the Equipo Permanente -Lasting Team- which includes the President,
the Vice-president, the Secretary, the Treasurer and one person in charge
of each commission and service. This lasting team has the Manager's and
the administrator support.

- Workshops commission:
it takes charge of developing safer sex workshops between men and between women. There are different sorts of workshops: those held in the headquarters of the association, those in meetings at houses, those in week-ends meetings and those offered to other organisations. It takes charge of the training of the volunteers in all those items related to safer sex, in courses for the 900 ROSA, Accompaniment Service, Test Service, Environment Trainers,…
- Projects Solidarity Commission:
this commission organises activities pointed to promote no discrimination and solidarity towards gay men and lesbian women who are positive. Every year, on the World-wide AIDS Day, this commission organises the "Solidarity Towards Positive Gay Big Dance", an event that shows the effort for achieving the purposes of the commission. These purposes are reflected on the papers that the commission publishes. They also wrote the rights of the VIH+ people.
this group takes charge of the design proposes and the ideas for publications edited by stop sida. Its work includes campaigns made on determinate festivity days -such as Valentine's Day, Sant Jordi, summer, Christmas, …- and other campaigns about specific items that can appear. This commission takes part as well on the elaboration of the state level campaign "Cuídate", and organises the Mixed Commission for "Cuídate" Campaign, with one member from each of the rest of commissions.
- Street Educators Commission:
this commission, structured during last term of the year, works on the change of attitudes by constant presence at gay meeting places, such as clubs. It takes charge of the deliveries of condoms, campaigns diffusion and distribution.

this service, created in 1995, is offered as an alternative centre for HIV antibodies detection. It's confidential, free of charge and anonymous. This service works the counselling before and after the test. Besides, it works as well on the changes of attitudes related to sexual practises and to the difficulties for having safer sex.
as in the same way that Test Service works, this one offers accompaniment by using counselling techniques. It also offers emotional support to positive gays and lesbians. The aim of this service is to attend their needs of accompany, friendship, emotional support and re-building their social relations as they have being spoilt. Besides, it works for the patients' adhesion to the antiretroviral treatments by establishing an open, safe and confidential relationship between them and the volunteers.
this is a service created by stop sida and Gais Positius, pointed to people who want deeper information on items related to HIV, as from a positive status like those living with a positive person. The aim of this service is offer a confidential environment where information and emotional support can be given.

2| Continuous presence at gay meeting places and deliveries of VIH/AIDS prevention material and condoms.
3| Information about safer sex and about services provided by stop sida at the same time condoms are given in saunas by street educators.
4| Fulfilment of group dynamics (workshops) pointed to promote the changes of attitudes and to give information about the HIV and the detection test.
5| Individual attention on phone through the info-line 900 ROSA.
6| Individual attention by reception at Coordinadora Gai-Lesbiana.
7| Promoting solidarity towards positive people, as among the homosexual community as society in general.
8| Taking part in activities and demands made in Catalonia which are related to the fight against AIDS.
9| Training courses for volunteers in each specific areas where stop sida works on.
10| Sexual Health Workshop Weekends, a place that invites to personal reflection for the change in caring out personal health.
